At Asymbol we believe in supporting the people and organizations that are working to make us all more aware of how our personal actions and choices affect the environment and world around us. Five percent of the proceeds from your purchases will be donated to PROTECT OUR WINTERS (POW). We're excited to be supporting such a great organization that's working hard to protect not only our incredible lifestyle, but our local mountain economies from the effects of climate change.
Here is some more info on them:
Protect Our Winters was started in 2007 by pro snowboarder, Jeremy Jones who, during winter trips, witnessed first-hand the impact of climate change on our mountains. After having been turned away from areas that had once been ride-able and seeing resorts closed due to lack of snow, Jeremy saw a gap between the winter sports community and the action being taken by them to address the problem.
Protect Our Winters is the environmental center point of the winter sports community, united towards a common goal of reducing climate change's effects on our sports and local mountain communities. POW was founded on the idea that if we harness our collective energy and put forth a focused effort, the winter sports community can have a direct influence on climate change and ensure that winters are here for generations behind us. We believe that to really effect things, consumer behavior needs to change and that the power of an actively participating and united community can achieve this.
Contributions to Protect Our Winters are re-invested in programs that have a tangible effect on climate change. Since 2007, POW has distributed over $150,000 to grassroots and community organizations, supported educational initiatives and led activism efforts on behalf of the winter sports community. JT.com: You have personally used art as an outlet to share the joy/passion/fear that you feel for the sport with others- through feature films, graphic designs for jackets, etc… Why go to this next level and open a gallery?
TR: For as long as I can remember rocking the shoes I wear, I've been infatuated with the work of so many talented people who pass through my life.
In recent years, I began to notice a disconnect between the creators and appreciators in regards to art and photography within the alternative lifestyle of board-sports. I really felt that boards and action magazines were an unworthy end game for that dedicated few’s life work.
The platform that has become Asymbol is the solution to that predicament. I think I just really felt like it was necessary to give credit due to the imagery, and hopefully inspire others to go out and find that bit of wanderlust for themselves… first person…
JT.com: Unfortunately, a recession is a tough time to convince people (especially the younger generation) to invest in art. How does Asymbol combat that?
TR: Ya! Great idea: Hmmm, recession, everyone’s cutting back. Why not start a Fine art and Photography gallery! Ya! That's the ongoing joke here...
But the work we represent is timeless. The OCD quality control we run here leaves value of which I am proud. Our goal was to always keep the body of work attainable and use it to help promote and fund some great non-profits at the same time.
